Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5) and Mental Illness

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5) of Mental Disorders is a manual that details the criteria for meeting psychiatric diagnoses according to the American Psychiatric Association. This is the common standard in North America, however in Europe and other parts of the world the International Classifications of  Disease (ICD-10) manual is more often referenced.  In Canada, it is known that one in five will have some form of mental illness, that is why it is important to recognize the signs of common mental illnesses and seek medical attention.
